It’s that time of the year when parking spaces are transformed from automotive resting pads to little urban oases. Park(ing) Day will be on Friday, September 21st, so keep an eye out for these temporary public spaces.
On a related note, Los Angeles is getting four parklets in coming months. Parklets block parking spaces to provide bike racks, greenery, and/or a place to sit. Dubbed “urban parks,” they’ve been sprouting like weeds in San Francisco and have proved popular with businesses and residents alike. Los Angeles’ City Council approved temporary installations in Downtown (Spring Street), Highland Park (York Boulevard), and El Sereno (Huntington Drive).
